3 is the Magic Number

The 12-hour time difference between the US and China has been kicking our butts the past few days. Zoe has been sleeping in 2-5 hour bursts and likes to start her day at 3:00 AM. She wakes up smiling and giggling every time, which makes it a little easier to function when your body feels like lead.

Last night was the first night since we got home that Zoe slept through the night. We had been trying to keep her up a little later in the evening each night, so after a quick bath, she passed out cold around 8:00 pm and slept until 4:00 am. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. (Of course my body is now used to waking at 3:00, so I stared at the clock for an hour before she got up.)

After reading the blog of our travel mates, it seems that 3:00 am is a popular wake up time for Miss Gracie too. Apparently our Jiangxi girls sychronized their internal clocks before we left China :-)

On the canine front, both Emma and Zoe have been very curious about each other. Emma is definitely a little jealous of the attention paid to her 'little sister' but overall she has been great.

Zoe flung her first fistful of Cheerios from the high chair this morning, much to Emma's delight. I think the dog is beginning to realize that having a baby in the house is not so bad after all. In fact, the highchair is a bit like a snack bar.

I've also made an imporant discovery: it is just as difficult to get mashed banana & rice cereal out of dog fur as it is to clean from human hair.

Hi Guys!! Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye to you on Wednesday. We were the last people off the plane since we were in the very last row! We had a blast hanging with you in China. I can't believe Grace and Zoe are on the same sleep schedule still. Grace slept from 8:45 to 5am last night which is pretty close to Zoe's 8-4:30am!! Take care and best of luck to the four of you....Emma seems like a great big sister :-)

I hate to tell ya but 3am is just par for the course for a 7 month old..... Miss Emma was just kind enough to switch from a 3am wake up feeding to a 4:30/5ish feeding. Granted we put her to bed at 7pm. Fortunately she goes right back to bed until 6:30/7.

It looks like your Emma and Zoe will be great friends! Who doesn't love a free buffet ;)

Kristin,
My love for animals is huge so I have to tell you how much I love the picture of Zoe holding Emma's ear.
And of course I loved the video of the 2 girls looking at one another.
I had a good laugh.
They are so cute together.

We were doing the 3 a.m. wake-up for a while, too. Right there with ya, sistah, staring at the clock. With the added bonus that just as I'm feeling drowsy again around 6 a.m., big sister bursts in, rarin' to go.

Anyway, my one-word solution for all this is DAYLIGHT. Take her out in the sun. Helps reset the body clock.
