We climbed the Great Wall of China today. (Well, we climbed a pretty huge section of it anyway.) It was about 90+ degrees today and the area of the wall we climbed is very steep. The experience was both amazing and exhausting.
I'd like to say I made it all the way to the top, but after power climbing for 60+ minutes in the blazing sun, I had to stop about one tower shy of the top. (Now, when I saw one tower shy of the top, you have to understand that there were still about a thousand or so additional steps to climb before the next tower.) Mark, who is clearly part mountain goat, pressed on and reached the summit about 20 minutes later. I was very proud :-)
There was another very surprising tourist attraction at the Wall today....me. During the first part of the climb, a woman approached me with a camera and said "You take picture." No problem. I assumed she wanted me to take her picture with the Wall in the background. But instead she wanted her picture taken with me. Then, we passed a tour group from Jakarta about half way up the wall and the same thing happened. I think I had my photo taken with half a dozen strangers today. Apparently light-haired western gals attract quite a bit of attention in some parts of China.
Tomorrow afternoon we visit the Forbidden City and then we leave Beijing and fly to Nanchang in the evening. Monday morning at 9:30 we get Zoe.

Kristin and Mark-
So happy to read your blog. We are glad to see you made it there safely. The Great Wall looks amazing!!!! By the time you read this you will most likely be holding Zoe. We are sooooooo excited for you. Enjoy your new family and we can't wait until you arrive safely back home. The mail pick-up is going smoothly and your house is fine. Between us and the Turks it is well looked after.
