It's 4:19 AM on Monday morning. The bad news is that I've been up for an hour already. The good news is that I did manage to sleep for 4 hours before then. I am happy to report that the beds here in Nanchang are a HUGE improvement over the concrete slabs at our hotel in Beijing. The room is much smaller- but I actually slept for the first time in days, so I have no complaints.
Today is nicknamed "gotcha day" in the adoption community. It's the grand finale of a very, very long wait and the beginning of our journey as parents. How are we feeling? Well a straight forward answer would be 'excited' but it's not as easy as you might think to explain. After waiting through months (then years) of disappointing delays, you find that your head does whatever it can to protect your heart from hurt and disappointment. So after all this time, the head is still a little hesitant to let the heart believe that there really is a baby at the end of this journey. So while we've been excited about the overall process, it hasn't been until now-- this moment-- that the head is finally yielding to the heart.
It's going to be a whole-box-of-tissues kind of day :-)

I can't begin to imagine how you are feeling. I have been watching the clock and counting the minutes and wondering if you got any sleep?, are you waiting in the parking lot for Zoe? Do you have any hair or nails left? Happy Gotcha Day! Congratulations family. Welcome to our family Zoe.

Oooo...you should be meeting Zoe right about now. I hope to see pictures when I wake up in the morning! Glad you're having a great trip so far...it just gets better after today!
I was in the car on my way home and I turned on the car radio (it was exactly 9:30 by the way) and Phil Collins was singing "I've been waiting for this moment all my life, all my life, I can feel it in the air tonight...." I know he is singing about a different moment but this one gave me goose bumps ( or duck bumps shall we say?)
