We spent our last morning in Beijing touring Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It took about 3 hours to walk through the palace grounds in 90+ temps but it was a truly unforgettable experience. We were swarmed by people trying to sell us everything from flags to Chairman Mao wrist watches. (Remind us to tell you the "Mickey Mao" story sometime.)
After sightseeing we drove directly to the airport and boarded a plane for a short flight to Zoe's province, Jiangxi. As a group, our luggage was shamefully overweight (by 90 Kilos!) but our guide managed to negotiate with the porters and we were able to avoid a hefty fee. However, our guide said we all need to get our act together and stay within the weight limit (44lbs) for our checked bags when we leave the province on Friday. We all felt sufficiently scolded.
We arrived at our hotel a couple of hours ago and we walked into our room to find a crib already set up. I immediately burst into tears, of course. I'm such a girl sometimes :-)
We organized our documents, the gifts for the nannies and a packed a diaper bag. Now I just have to find a way to get some sleep tonight! It's already 11:00 pm.
In just a few short hours, we finally get to meet our Zoe. We're meeting our travel group in a conference room on the 3rd floor of our hotel tomorrow morning. The nannies will be bringing the babies here from the orphanage at 9:30 am. It's been explained to us that we will be standing on one side the room, the babies on the other (like a Jr. High dance) and one by one they'll call our names. After checking our passports and adoption documentation they'll hand us our daughter.
I promise to post pictures tomorrow as soon as I'm able.
I can't believe this moment is finally here!!!!!!
